IC cross-reference and replacement FAQs

Common questions from engineers and procurement sourcing pin-compatible, drop-in or obsolete IC alternatives.

Question 1

What does pin-compatible mean?

Pin-compatible means a replacement part uses the same package and the same pin assignment as the original, so it can be fitted to the existing footprint without changing the PCB layout. Electrical behaviour still has to be checked: supply voltage range, logic thresholds, timing and current ratings can differ between pin-compatible parts, and a substitute that matches on pins but not on these limits may need a design change.

Question 2

Can you replace a discontinued or obsolete IC?

Yes — that is the main use case. Send the original part number and we cross-reference it against active equivalents, list the ones that share the package and pinout, and note the parameters that differ. If no true drop-in exists, we say so and suggest the closest option together with the change it would require.

Question 3

How do I verify a replacement will work in my design?

Start with the comparison table for the part: package, pin count, supply voltage, logic levels, timing and temperature grade. Then validate on the bench with samples before a production order — most substitutions pass immediately, but timing-sensitive or analogue circuits should always be tested. Include your schematic constraints in the RFQ and our team will flag the parameters that need checking.

Question 4

What is the minimum order and lead time?

Samples start at 10 pcs and mass production at 100 pcs. Samples ship in 5-7 days and production orders in 15-25 days, depending on the part and quantity. Tell us the target volume and schedule in the RFQ and we confirm availability, alternatives and pricing for that quantity.

Which IC families do you cover?

Coverage spans the families that account for most obsolete-part searches: 74-series logic, 4000-series CMOS, EEPROM and SPI flash memory, linear and switching regulators, RS-232 and RS-485 transceivers, USB-to-serial bridges, op-amps, motor drivers and widely used microcontrollers. If a part is not listed yet, send the part number and we will cross-reference it.
